Just up the track from camp, you glimpse a strange creature gliding through the treetops. What was that? You freeze, eyes peeled. Next time the animal moves, you'll be ready.

A moment later the animal launches into the air, spreading itself flat like a pancake. It swoops from one branch to the next with barely a sound, dislodging a flurry of red and yellow leaves. When it lands, it turns its head in your direction and pants. A pink tongue hangs from an open mouth, beneath a button nose, amber eyes, and pointed ears.

You squint into the shadows. It looks like a dog, but that's impossible. Dogs don't fly. Or do they?
