This book, the third volume of a series on U.S. Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Aviation, covers the inception and development of the various pre-World War II reserve aviation activities up to and, in large part, through the end of that war. In many instances, historical information is included concerning the communities in which the bases were located. Dozens of photographs are included to illustrate graphically the development of the bases. In addition to Naval Reserve Aviation Bases, histories of Navy Pre-Flight Schools are included. A chronology covering the organizational growth of the Naval Aviation Reserve as it applies to all reserve facilities is included as an appendix to this volume. This chronology also includes a considerably detailed account of the aviation training provided for officers, aviation cadets, and enlisted men, most of whom were reservists, during World War II. This book should appeal to aviation history aficionados, particularly those interested in the 1920s and 1930s, and the World War II era. It may perhaps bring a touch of nostalgia to those readers who were personally involved during these periods.
