Not a coin guide that is credible.

Subject: US Error Coin Guide 2025 by Merle Wallace Dear Coin Collectors, If you're thinking about buying the US Error Coin Guide 2025 by Merle Wallace, beware of major inaccuracies that could mislead collectors, particularly beginners. The author is likely not a US coin collector and may reside outside the US. The name "Wallace" appears to be a generic English name chosen for publication. The book contains glaring errors that suggest a lack of numismatic expertise, with several claims unsupported by reputable numismatic references, including: • Wallace claims the 1913 V-Nickels were “minting errors.” The 1913 V-Nickels are not minting errors but were deliberately produced by someone with access to U.S. Mint facilities. • Wallace misrepresents die errors as caused by defects on the dies. This statement is partially correct, however die errors also include doubled dies and RPMs. • The book's definition of a weak strike resulting from a die not making full contact with the planchet is misleading and not credible in numismatic terms. • Wallace’s statement on overstrike is incorrect. Correctly stated by PCGS: “Overstrikes are coins or tokens struck using an already struck example of a different issue as a planchet.” • Wallace states, “It is well known that counterfeit coins and coins listed as error coins that are not error coins are posted on eBay all the time; however, there are no cases of Heritage auctions posting any counterfeit coins.” eBay has counterfeit coins, however; a premier auction house like Heritage does not. Wallace’s book contains numerous inaccuracies and misleading claims that could lead to coin misidentification, overpaying for common items, or chasing non-existent varieties, risking financial loss or frustration. Amazon reviews echo these concerns, citing “misleading statements” and questioning the book’s professionalism, further undermining its credibility. For reliable information, avoid sources from self-proclaimed experts who plagiarize error coin photos from sites like HA, NGC, Variety Vista, and doubledie.com. Many such disreputable works in coin collecting feature: • Fabricated biographies☒ • Stock author photos☐ • Old English name chosen to seem American☒ • Falsified editorials☒ • Bogus credentials☒ • Manipulated five-star reviews.☐ • Plagiarism ☒ This book is deceiving a surprising number of readers, landing it among Amazon's best sellers.
