Will help you categorize the strangers around you each day

You know them. Some of them you know by name. But you may not know that they aren't just a unique annoyance to you, but there are enough of them to justify a listing in Urban Animals. Some of the examples that will be all too familiar to most of us: The Simpsons Quoter, The Condescending Vegetarian, The Friendster and The GooPhy (the Google Physician). McLeod's illustrations nicely fit the text, adding some extra punch to guide. Originally run in the National Post, Urban Animals will help you categorize the strangers around you each day, and probably many of your friends. And with some ill luck, you may just find yourself in here.

laugh to yourself

A friend gave me this book as a gift. I really like it so far - it's really funny and i am laughing to myself as i read. nice and light during some not-so-light times. Just thought to myself that i will get a few for stocking stuffers.

Amusing urban stereotypes

Have you ever noticed someone and thought to yourself, "She is one of those types"? If you have, you will enjoy this book. I recognized so many different types. For instance, The Peeb is a bearded man of unknown age who rides his bike everywhere and always speaks in a hushed tone. Miss Happenstance works very hard to look casually chic. Her whole easy going, casual attitude is carefully crafted down to the very last detail. The name-dropper is self explanatory. This is an amusing, light read for those who enjoy people watching.

Cliches in the City

Mireille Silcoff, along with artist co-hort Kagan McLeod, ran this column in the National Post. It featured caricature drawings of diverse personalities which accompany the column itself on the multitude of personalities found within urban settings. You can plop down in any big city and using this as a field guide, you should be able to spot the variety of typical, cliched, and stereotyped people that wander the businesses and streets of our cities. Whether it be the Belated Partyer (that 35 yr old guy that has become enamoured with DJing) or the Alaska Man (that grizzled beard bearing guy that thinks you need to be in touch with manly nature) or the VictoriAnna (that older lady fond of kitzch antiques and year round Christmas ornament shops) and it all started with The Old Guy at The Gym. There is a wide variety of personnas out there and as you read through this edition, you will be thinking up ones of your own. Easy reading over lunch.
