Before World War II, Harold Bell Wright became a very famous American author and even today has a cult following of loyal readers. Known as a Western author, this book proved that Wright came back often to visit New York State. The book also shows the history of Oneida County and Wright's family, co-founders of a Settlement and a church. The added memoir by nurse Jane A. Wright helps bring back the days before Wright Settlement became part of the Cold War with the installation of Rome Army Air Depot and later, Griffiss Air Force Base, part of the Strategic Air Command and NORAD. The book also covered Boonville NY's 97th Regiment during the Civil War and the inspiring lives of Wright's mother, Alma T. Watson, and her family, plus the biography of his Aunt Sue, when she lived in Utica, NY.
