The safe solid ground that was once Earth is now unsafe treacherous land filled with disease. No one is safe and departure is advisable.
The only way out to safety seems to be leaving the ground we walk upon and accepting Uplift towards stars to start new colonies out there in the void beyond Pluto.
Preparations for Exodus are underway but not everyone seems keen to go. Some think that the disease is something they can live with and that Earth can survive its impact.
