This simple volume provides examples of animals and things in motion to demonstrate the concept of up and down. The narrative is in English and Spanish languages.
I highly recommend this book as a fantastic way to build confidence in young emergent readers. We're planning to acquire a few more, as Gordon apparently has a whole series of "opposites". Each page has one line of text, printed in a large font at the BOTTOM of the page. This placement makes it much easier for little fingers to underscore the words as they read them. Most of the book is written with a formula of "ups" on the left page and "downs" on the right. The ending though, has "The boy is up" on the left, accompanied by a photo of a grinning boy sitting in a tree. The right hand page features a Mom looking up, and the words, "Come down!" There is also a vocabulary review at the back, with a small version of the photo for each word. My daughter was reading this one through fairly fluently after I read it her just once.
