Unsafe: A Faith that is NOT about you!

In 2 Timothy 1:7 the Bible says we should live by faith and not by fear, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and sound mind." But to be perfectly honest with you, when I look at the state of the Western church, I struggle with fear. A fear that we are so consumed with how many people we can pack into a morning service, how much money can raise for our new project, and how many buildings and we build by the end of the year, that we've lost focus on what matters most, the Glory of Jesus! And as a pastor I get it, we need money to pay the bills and we always want to see new faces on Sunday mornings. But at what cost? Do we sacrifice the core-integrity of the Gospel to make it more palatable for non-believers; do we soften the challenges, and yes there are many, that come with daily following Jesus? And if we do those things are we really preparing our people for the challenges they will inevitably face in this life?The answer to those questions is the reason I felt the need to write this book. Frankly, it was just going to be a 500-word article for our church newsletter, but it just kept growing and growing. My heart's desire for my church, my community, and you, is that you understand the mandate of the Gospel to be Unsafe for the glory of Jesus. The truth is faithfully following Jesus WILL NOT be easy! And anyone that tells you different is trying to sell you something. My prayer is that this book will enlighten you on the many challenges of following Jesus in todays culture, and encourage you to look past your own comforts and preferences to see what God has in store for your life. Living a life that's Unsafe for the glory of Jesus will be one of the most difficult things you will ever undertake. But it will also be one of the most rewarding! Never forget what Jesus said, "These things I have spoken to you, so that you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world!" Not once in Scripture did Jesus ever promise us we would have an easy life. But multiple times He did promise us that He would never leave us or forsake us, and that in Him we would experience a life of fulfillment beyond our imagination. So let's look at what it means to live a life that's Unsafe for the glory of Jesus!
