That's what happens when Marinko leaves his hometown and family to work as a seaman. As he learns the ropes of his new job, he meets a series of characters including Josip, an arrogant, boastful young man who introduces Marinko to vices he's never encountered before. As Marinko increasingly falls under the spell of Josip and America, he makes a series of fateful decisions that will change his life forever. Convinced if he follows Josip's advice they will both get rich, Marinko follows his new friend as they change course and join the crew of a different ship. However, when Marinko learns that they are now working for a group of smugglers, he realises their choice has put them both in terrible danger. Set in the 1950s, this book is both an exciting adventure story and a powerful meditation on how fate's unpredictability can combine with poor decisions and lead to tragedy."Unpredictable Fate" is my debut novel. I've drawn on my own life experience for this book, including my fifteen years of being in command at sea.
