Himalayan missionary, author of 'Fair Sunshine'

Leonard Ravenhill selected Purves' 'Fair Sunshine', the story of the Scottish Covenanters, to be on a top-ten list of books to help you become a man or woman of God. This is the autobiography of Purves. I found it challenging in that it dealt with an extremely harsh environment to work in! However, the victories and spiritual lessons on my only reading (15 or so years ago) seemed a bit sparse. Compared to 'Fair Sunshine', which is a consistently inspiring and uplifting story of martyrs of the Scottish persecution, his personal story is a more humble account, but still a deep one, dealing 'primarily with the people of those regions, Baltis, Pathans and others, who are vividly depicted in a series of individual portraits. The author's love for them all shines through these pages but he lingers longest on those who came to adorn the gospel of Christ.'(from back cover.)
