This instructor's solutions manual accompanies the main text, which features a discussion of concepts in physics, and models which extract essential features of the phenomenon. The equations are derived from an analysis of the relevant model.
I used this text for my freshman calculus-based physics class. I just wish I had worked a little harder! What a great book for introducing some difficult concepts. I highly recommend it to professors looking for an introcutory text. Although some mathematical techniques are glossed over (I remember matrix methods being introduced in an aside to a problem), overall the book is a good one. Lots of examples (ranging from very simple to pretty complex) are given -- this parallels the problems, which can be very easy or very challenging. Some numerical methods (I remember them being written out in BASIC, but the algorithms are easy to deduce from this) are presented. In addition, the order of the topics is good, and the humor which is included serves to lighten the load a bit. Kudos!
