The back cover of the novel Unhinged:
Who hasn't been in therapy in modern America? But have you ever wondered about the life of your therapist?
The protagonist/narrator of Unhinged is a therapist in Connecticut: middle-aged, professionally respected, and progressively overwhelmed. His clients reflect a world saturated in porn, obsessed with all things digital, and grappling with the rise of the new sexual categories. He works with a teenager with a promising hockey career who has just come out to his irate parents, a widow being taken advantage of on the dating apps, and a sex worker in need of serious career counseling.
For that matter, his own life and that of his family aren't spared the kind of dilemmas he hears about day in and day out in his Hartford office. So how is this all to end?
Unhinged is the story of one man's confrontation with some of the thornier aspects of contemporary life, a story of sex, commitment, the crucial role therapy plays in our lives today, and the search for happiness in the wildly fractured America of the twenty-first century.
