From Simon & Schuster, Unhallowed Ground is Paul Guernsey's unforgettable novel about a young boy's search for his father and brother. The swamp that adjoins a small-backwoods Connecticut community retains an aura of evil and becomes the focus of seventeen-year-old Danny Moreno's search for his father and brother, who disappeared separately several years earlier.
This is one of my favorite books (alongside from Winterson's The Passion, Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway, Robbin's Jitterbug Perfume, Suskind's Perfume, Morrison's Beloved, and Walker's Color Purple). A coming of age story that readsa like memoir and is laced with the realism of Catcher In the Rye or Tobias Wolff and Frank Conroy's tales of growing up and facing an adult reality which is both menacing, haunting, and beautiful. Bravo!
