Loving Through The Pain

Diana Beard-Williams' debut novel, Unfinished Business, introduces readers to the family of Larry Edwards and the spiraling events that make their lives what they are. The story starts out in the 1960s with Larry and his siblings growing up with the absence of their father. His mother was deeply depressed by their father leaving the family. In fact she stopped living when their father left the home. Larry and his siblings were separated and sent to stay with relatives for awhile, but returned to live with their mother as young adults. By the time they moved back with their mother, they were all different people. Larry looked to his older brother as a role model. When his brother left home, Larry did not know what he would do. He decided he would go off to college to occupy his mind from his brother's absence. After college, Larry obtained a job at Harvest Manufacturing as a janitor. He had confidence that one day he would be promoted to a management position which he knew he deserved. He soon found out that his boss, Melvin, had no intentions of promoting him. Melvin would tell him that there were openings and that he would recommend Larry for the positions. Melvin had Larry do a lot of his managerial tasks and pass them off as his own; until one day Larry could take no more. Larry went home to his wife Nancy. To have quality one-on-one time with her husband, Nancy sent their daughter away to spend time with Rosa, her sister. Little did Nancy know this would be the last time she would see her sister and her daughter. From this point on Rosa, the 17-year old sister-in-law of Larry Edwards, would have to raise his young daughter, Regina. This is only the beginning of Rosa and Regina's journey. They meet several people that will touch their lives in several ways. Unfinished Business is a novel that focuses on the family struggle, love, and the pain that each of the characters go through over a period of years. This book has its share of drama and surprises throughout the story. This read was well-written and I felt so much compassion for many of the characters. I could not wait to find out what would happen next. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to others. Reviewed by Phyllis Ann APOOO BookClub

romance and intrigue never felt so real

Got book from a friend. Really enjoyed it. A page turner from page 1. Recommend it for anyone who likes a little erotica with a great story.

Brillant work that touched my soul

This author toched my life through her characters and their experiences. Great book that deserves the attention of those who can make it available to a wider audience. No stereotypes, just real African American women like you and I who have the ablity to love, nurture, bounce back from adversity and know that they are all works in progress. A must reading for those who produce moton pictures and are looking for quality, entertaining stories to put on the screen.

Food For The Soul

Won..der...ful! feel as if I now personally know the main characters. Had gotten so wrapped up in their lives that I hated it when I ran out of pages to read. It's amazing how our lives are shaped by another's deed and how it all comes full circle. Regina and Carrie are my friends.Rosa is my hero. The book was an amazing journey worth taking again.
