A specialized course for Mechanical and Construction Engineering students and wood construction industry practitioners is offered. The reader will find new ideas and theoretical models verified by laboratory experiments and field data analysis. The main goal is to improve the understanding of the basic relationship between different strength parameters of the wood-based oriented strand board and the average flake geometry and mat formation. The new knowledge extracted by the analysis suggests a way toward reaching ambitious targets in future structural wood production, such as maximizing the strength-to-weight ratio approaching the best grades of the plywood, while preserving the substantial cost advantages of the present-day OSB. The reader gets an introduction to the work in progress and the invitation to further develop environmentally advantageous wood construction methods to reduce our reliance on energy-consuming traditional construction materials.
