Good to start with

This is an excellent book if you are really a beginner. True, it doesn't cover grammar, but Ancient Egyptian grammar is not a difficult one, you can pick it up on Internet. You can learn lots of words here, and move on with another book if you already learned everything in this one.

Good information, but not much grammar.

This book falls far short as a grammar, except as a bare minimal first introduction. However, the information about Egyptian writing, monuments, and society is all quite good. Very good for someone who is interested in Egypt and wants a very basic understanding of hieroglyphs.

Excellent for beginners!

This is an excellent book for people just starting to learn about Egyptian hieroglyphs. The author teaches the basic vocabulary that occurs over and over in most inscriptions, and she gives lots of examples of authentic inscriptions so you can practice what you're learning. This is NOT a grammar of the ancient language... but it's a great place to start.
