528 pagesClear, consistent writing and organization are featured throughout. The mechanisms of cardiac rhythms are explained and illustrated for easier comprehension.Knowledge builds logically from mechanisms of arrhythmias, axis, and normal rhythms, to arrhythmia recognition.Pediatric implications are provided for appropriate arrhythmias.Differential diagnoses for arrhythmias are provided to cover all the possibilities of the patient's clinical status.A consulting board made up of internationally known experts in ECG recognition assures the content is as accurate and up-to-date as possible. Revised and updated chapters include the explosion of new information regarding mechanisms, risks, diagnosis, therapy, and cures, changing the way patients with arrhythmias and myocardial infarction are managed. The Congenital Long QT syndrome chapter (25) has been thoroughly revised with new information on the recognition of this inherited disease as well as its precipitating circumstances. The Acquired Long QT syndrome chapter (26) has been thoroughly revised to describe this life-threatening arrhythmia and lists all of the non-cardiac drugs that are now known to cause it.The Atrial Flutter chapter (9) is totally revised to incorporate new diagnostic techniques that have evolved as well as improvements in acute and long-term management.A NEW Chapter on Brugada Syndrome (27) teaches early identification and treatment of those at risk of sudden death from this dangerous ECG pattern.A NEW Athlete's ECG chapter (20) teaches how intense physical training is associated with ECG patterns that are a consequence of physiologic adaptations of the heart. This chapter shows how the clinician must be aware of these benign ECG patterns, but at the same time recognize possible pathological ECG changes that may require further investigations.A NEW chapter (31) on In-Hospital Ischemia Monitoring measures the patient's response to therapy & provides an important determinant for survival from myocardial infarction and ischemia.
I'm a paramedic who uses and needs to have an understanding of 12 leads and other electrocardiography skills. This book has proven to be an excellent reference tool. However, I should say this: this book is not for beginners. If you have little or no ECG experience, I would suggest you try a different text. The book makes the assumption that you already have some background in the major points of ECG's and because of this, glosses over or touches lightly the basic topics in electrocardiography. For this reason, I say it is not an ideal source for beginner information, and there are books out there that are better equipped to handle those types of readers. Also, the author writes in a very technical and mechanical way, and if you don't respond well to that method of writing, you will quickly be bored with this text. However, if you have a background in ECG's, then this book is a wonderful tool to brush up on your skills and further improve your understanding in electrocardiography. The only problems I have with the book itself is that many of the ECG pictures and illustrations are not well printed and are difficult to read. This may be due to poor printing or the author selected poor examples to include in her text.

"An excellent review of ECG! Very good for medical students who want to go well beyond Dubin's text. Also includes lots of information on treatment of arrhythmias." (I also recommend challenging ECGs to practice what you learned.)
A basic text for ECG recognition.

This textbook was listed in the bibliography of references for a basic ECG course I recently took. I found this book easy to read and comprehend. It is a good reference text to have in your personal library.
