Bazi (in Chinese meant Eight Character), also known as Four Pillars of Destiny or Chinese astrology, is an ancient Chinese method of divination used in Chinese culture to decode a person's lifepath destiny.

It is based on a person's birth date, time, and place, and is represented by four pillars, each representing a different aspect of the person's life: the year, month, day, and hour, thus Bazi is also known Four Pillars of divination.

A Bazi chart will comprise of 10 Heaven Stems and 12 Earth Branches, which are based on the Chinese lunar calendar.

The 10 Heaven Stems are represented by the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, together with its Yin and Yang polarity, formed the 10 Heaven Stems), and the 12 Earth Branches (which also have Yin and Yang polarity) represented the 12 lunar months.
