After an economic collapse, the Regime targets people with disabilities and physical differences to reduce the population. Anyone who doesn't meet the new "human perfection" standards is slated for Removal to camps where they are kept as prisoners. Fifteen-year-old Zoe is hard of hearing, which could make her a target. After a friend is snatched away for not meeting the Regime's height standards, Zoe is determined to stand up against the unjust policies. She is joined by her best friend Rami, who has a speech disorder and fears his father's disease will put them next on the list. The two friends must hide their own disabilities while trying to help others. They join a freedom network, hiding people in nearby caves and then passing them on to others who guide them to safety. But danger is everywhere, and it's hard for Zoe to know who to trust as she fights for freedom.
