Under Unusual Circumstances

Business success allowed David and Nora to purchase a beach home on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, providing a place for them and their children to live their dream. One day, David discovered an obituary in the attic of that beach house. Many of the details were obliterated although it did say that Albert Mare had died in April of 1942 "under unusual circumstances". That description resulted in David and Nora's obsession to discover the unusual circumstances of Albert Mare's death. A search for information about Albert failed. But Nora's search for Maggie Mare, Albert's next of kin, found her at a nursing home in Columbia, not far from the Outer Banks. When they questioned Maggie, she feared that David and Nora were shysters out to take her money, initially refusing to reveal anything about Albert. Maggie reluctantly agreed to share information about Albert only as a trade of personal information about David and Nora. Trust built, and with it, Maggie revealed more and more details of Albert's life and how he had died "under unusual circumstances".
