This film follows San Francisco writer Frances Mayes to Italy as a good friend offers her a special gift -- 10 days in Tuscany. Once there, she is captivated by its beauty and warmth, and impulsively buys an aging, but very charming, villa. Fully embracing new friends and local color, she finds herself immersed in a life-changing adventure filled with enough unexpected surprises, laughter, friendship, and romance to restore her new home -- and her belief in second chances.

Delightful, sweet. Makes me miss this time period. They don't make movies like this anymore.
Once again, just the book title was borrowed.

This is a movie that had great potential. If they stuck halfway with the story of the book that this film was supposed to be based on (Trials and tribulations of restoring a villa and vineyard), it would have been great. The film "The Money Pit" came a lot closer to the story.
Instead, we get a canned formula: boy meets girl (Diane Lane) and girl meets girl (Sandra Oh) and so forth. The villa just happened to be in the way of the story. And talk about slow and dragged out.
There are a few travel poster shots of Italy that are nice, but none were worth the expense in time to wait for a story that never unfolds.
Under the Tuscan Sun is a nice romance movie for a "date night", without romance

This is a very pleasant movie to watch. I think many people can relate to a single person taking a big step into something unknown and pleasantly adapting to the things life throws at you. I've watched it several times and look forward to the next time.
