Book Overview

"Under the Tonto Rim" is a compelling tale of adventure and romance set against the rugged backdrop of the Arizona wilderness. Written by the legendary master of the Western genre, Zane Grey, the story follows Lucy Watson, a determined young woman who leaves the comforts of civilization to serve as a welfare worker among the hardy, isolated settlers of the Tonto Rim. As she navigates the challenges of frontier life, Lucy must adapt to a world where the laws of nature and the strength of one's character define survival.

Throughout her journey, she encounters the untamed beauty of the American Southwest and the rough-hewn people who inhabit it, including the stoic Edd Denmeade. The narrative explores themes of personal growth, the clash between modern society and traditional mountain life, and the transformative power of the wilderness. Rich in atmospheric detail and evocative descriptions of the landscape, "Under the Tonto Rim" captures the spirit of the Old West. This classic work remains a significant contribution to American frontier literature, showcasing Grey's ability to weave heart-pounding action with profound emotional depth.

The Bee Hunter

When Lucy Watson takes on the job as a state welfare worker she never dreams what a change will take place in her life among the back woods men and farmers of Cedar Ridge. Her sole aim in life was to help these people live better lives and to lift them out of the poverty she "sees". But love comes her way in the form of Edd Denmeade, a slender wedge shaped man giving the impression of extraordinary strength and suppleness. To complicate matters, Lucy's sister, Clara comes and only adds to the discomfiture of the local boys. This book is classic Zane Grey as only he could pen. Originally titled, The Bee Hunter, for magazine publication it tells of the simple life, the primitive life, the settlers in a wild and rugged country faced and continued to face as they entered the 20th Century. The romance is there, the opposition and the rivalries between families; the fantastic descriptive prowess of Zane Grey displayed in all of its fullness. It's a good romantic novel to settle down with on any given evening.
