This book was written by a Czech author, Vaclav Jim Stastny (Lucky Jim), who dreamed as a young boy to travel the world. After escaping his homeland, communist Czechoslovakia, in 1968, his journey took him to Canada, Yukon Territory, where he spent almost 20 years of his life. Jim speaks about this part of his life in his first book, Canadian Wandering (available on Amazon).
Under the Southern Cross describes Jim's 2-month traveling adventures through South America in 1995. He fulfilled his dream to experience the lost city of Machu Picchu and journey through the jungle and the Amazon River.
Besides his personal encounters, Jim also provides some historical facts of the region.
Sadly, Jim's life journey ended on Oct. 31, 2023 and this book is being published in his memory.
