Before the Nineteenth century,the infamous "Revolution" swept over France, with many falling victim to"Madam Guillotine" and its horrors. The conflict between France and many varied nations of Europe continued until 1814. Great Britain remained the one nation in continual hostilities with France. Since Great Britain was an island nation, with a powerful army and navy, France considered them a most important adversary, who, in the utmost, must be defeated. In 1802, the Treaty of Amiens was achieved , which brought eighteen months of peace. Our story begins near the end of this treaty. Lt. Richard Welch has served for twelve years in His Majesty's Navy. Now French intelligence has spread rumors of a "ghost ship to play on the fears of English sailors. As first officer aboard HMS Essex, he and and the crew are pursed by this ship, Ombre de Cordeau or Raven's Shadow, twice. Assuming the rank of captain, he is thrust into forefront of the hunt for this craft. In the meantime, a young woman, Katharine, comes into his life. Can he find the balance to maintain his deep love for her and his quest for the captain of the Raven Ship, Armand Gerbier, with whom he feels he has somehow become connected? Why has Richard become a target of the French Intelligence? Can Katharine conquer her fears for Richard's safety?
