Uncle Tom's Cabin

Uncle Tom's Cabin was first published in 1852 and was the best-selling novel of the 19th century. The book was widely popular and sold over a million and a half copies in Britain. Historians and literary experts agree that the book had a major influence on attitudes towards slavery and became one of the formative influences leading to the Civil War. Although the language may be antiquated for modern readers (As it should for a book from 1852), it presents an Abolitionist's view of human slavery as it existed at the time. Many stereotypes were generated by the characters in the book and that unfortunately has cast them and the book in a bad light in the minds of some. The reader will find that Uncle Tom was a genuinely good man, that Jim Crow was a child, and that personal faith remains the best guide for morality. Whatever you think the book will be like, it probably will not be. The format of this re-issue has been updated for the modern reader. It is not a photocopy.
