This story is set in the 1890's in Michigan. The author's great uncle, Miner Postmus, a teenager at the time, rebels and runs away from home. He ends up in Grand Rapids Michigan after being mugged and left penniless. He joins some other boys in stealing and other crimes and as a result gets deathly is. He is rescued by a young Louis Berkhof who nurses Miner back to health. Miner, who goes by the nickname Mike, is led to a renewed faith by Louis. In the process of discipling Mike, Louis discovers his own doubts and together he and Mike discover a new and lasting faith that changes both of them forever. This is a story of rebellion and redemption, of mystery and adventure, of the Prodigal Son meets the Good Samaritan, of doubt and new faith.
