Uncle Jim's War: Tracing a Soldiers WWII Story

Uncle Jim was an unassuming 24 year old young man when he was called up for National Service in 1940, returning to 'Civvy Street' over six years later. There was little known about his exploits as he would never talk at length about what he did or where he went. After his death in 2007, the author set about tracing his war experience using his Service records and War Diaries from the National Archives. The book reveals some of the remarkable things he was involved in on some of the most famous battlefields of the Second World War. It follows his footsteps for six long years giving the reader an understanding of why Jim never spoke about the horrors of war.
A review by Barrie Barnes author of author of 'This Righteous War', 'Sign of the Double T', 'Known to the Night', 'Operation Scipio' and 'Known Unto God'
Hi Graham, I have spent the afternoon reading your book and couldn't put it down. My other half has only just found out where I disappeared to. I felt I must get in touch right away to congratulate you on a mammoth piece of research that must have been a pure labour of love, your uncle would be very proud I am sure. You have worked hard to trace his footsteps throughout the war and your book will now stand, with numerous others of this type, as a testament to the hardships that generation had to endure for so long. Well done, this detailed study will be of interest to military historians and the general public alike. You should be proud of your achievement and it was my privilege to read it, Good luck for the future, Barrie.
