From the cradle in a rural farm-based, close-knit community in Rumuigbo to a more urban city in Rebisi, Port Harcourt, in Rivers State, Nigeria, Patience recounts her humble life's journey to date. She presents a clear picture of how she and her elder siblings struggled with their single mother, whose husband died at a very early stage in their marriage, changing the trajectory of the lives of her mother, siblings and herself. It is a book of life review, struggles, challenges, adjustments, healings, triumphs, and appreciations. It is a book of a treasured memories, burdened, but unbroken heart. The difficult life in a poor, rural farm community, with its attendant strict and disciplined upbringing that was consistent with the lifestyle of the time, equipped the writer in adjusting to the demands of a life as an orphan and later years' challenges. As daunting as life was, those conditions did not despair her early ambitious spirit and aspirations to create and live a better life for herself. Through the concept and practice of the African adage that says it takes a village to raise a child, Patience was able to navigate her environments with caution and the audacity to succeed. That success is due to her belief in the cultural values impacted on her as exemplified by the life of her mother, siblings, uncles, aunts and cousins. The sufferings of her late mother sparked off the spirit and desire to be different. An ambition that she held as a promise to her mother, self and a brother. An ambition that informed her that the girl child is not only good for making babies but holds other potentials that are educationally and economically viable as well as valuable. Because she believes in her roots and values the lessons of history, she was determined to change the paths that her beloved mother found herself in. She did not allow the poor family status of her upbringing define and deter her abilities to be different and pursue a better life.
