Julianne Dueber's THE ULTIMATE HIGH SCHOOL SURVIVAL GUIDE should be required reading for all high school freshmen and their parents! While sensitive to sensitive issues, it also "cuts to the chase" in a no-nonsense way, frequently using wit to make a point. It's an easy read that both parents and teens will enjoy. I wish it was the textbook for a class at my school!
The Ultimate High School Survival Guide

As a sophomore in high school, I find this book very helpful and informative. It helped me survive my first year in high school and gave me tips on how to get good grades, handle social situations, and have time for activities. This book covers a wide variety of issues inside and outside of school. Many of my questions were answered and I used it to help develop new strategies for homework and tests, as well as how to get along with others. I have recommended this book to several of my friends who were struggling to adjust to high school life, because I know it has helped me. You can easily tell that the author has taught high school and truly understands what students are going through today to live up not only to the expectations of others, but to their own expectations of themselves.
Great book for students who read it.

I will be a high school junior this school year. Last year I participated in a program that helps to prepare middle school kids for high school. A couple of weeks after the program started one of the parents gave me this book. I was convinced that I knew everything there was about the stuff that goes on in high school so I wasn't going to take the time to read it. One day I was desperate to find something to talk about other than myself and that would promote discussion so I turned to this book. I found the real student situations and stories very helpful in my meetings and used the book the rest of the year. At the end of the year I recommended that the students buy the book. I know that most won't but it is good to know that a book like this exists because it answers many of the questions that students either don't want to ask or don't realize need to be asked. I think this book probably answered some of my questions even though I don't know what those questions were.
Outstanding Book for Adolescents

This fabulous, comprehensive book is a must see for high school students and their parents. Each chapter contains valuable information pertinent to the high school student's successful transition through adolescence. As a high school counselor, I strongly recommend this publication for students who may need some guidance in high school and college planning, as well as academic concerns such as math anxiety, testing, reading, and time management. In addition, a variety of key adolescent issues, including getting along with teachers, stress management, and other teenage traumas are discussed in an easily digested format. Julianne Dueber's educational expertise and phenomenal connection to the teenage perspective provide a powerful resource for high school students. Well done!
