This publication was inspired by a photographic exhibition 'Uganda at a Glance', hosted at the Nommo Gallery in Kampala. The result is a beautifully presented collection of photographs, and accompanying texts, which provide an introduction to many aspects of life in Uganda. The book is particularly aimed at visitors to the country. A country profile introduces Uganda with general information on aspects of geography, and perspectives on the country's history from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. The editor then considers the city and the countryside from the viewpoint of the tourist. A lively series of photographs capture the atmosphere of 'Kampala by night', and the historical monuments. There are many shots of landscapes and rural life, national parks and safari, lakes, islands, rivers and forests. The book also includes a wealth of practical information on air and ground travel, accommodation, and traditional medical services, banks, restaurants, bars and internet cafes, local tourist information and street and road maps highlighting tourist attractions.
