There has never been a comprehensive reference guide detailing the full operational careers of Hitler's U-Boats. This book fills that gap in the enthusiast's bookshelf by providing the crucial statistics about more than 1,100 individual U-Boats.
An excellent record of all U Boat activities over 10 years.

At first sight this does not look like a 5 star book. It is, however, an essential addition to the bookshelf of anyone seriously interested in all U Boat activities during the 10 year period 1935-1945. Let me be quite clear. If you want to read a good story about a specific U Boat operation, this is not the book for you. If, on the other hand, you need to find a quick reference to, say, U 85 (picked at random), all the information is here. That includes; Type of U Boat, Flotilla, details of her only commander, dates and areas of her 7 operational patrols, ships sunk (with dates, names and tonnages) and finally date and details of the U-Boat's loss. Such information is repeated for every single U Boat operated by Germany during the period in question which makes this book an invaluable asset for all those, as I say, with a serious interest in the subject. There are very few photographs because this is not a picture book. The Appendices, however, do include profiles for different U boat types, names and details of recipients of the Knights Cross, notes on resupply at sea, areas of operations and more additional fascinating information. Altogether, well researched and an excellent record. NM
