Tyseley depot is unique, having had active steam locomotives based at the depot since 1908. Those managing the steam depot since 1968 have been at the forefront of mainline steam preservation and pioneers of the heritage railway movement from the return of steam to BR in 1971 to the creation of the first publicly owned, charitable controlled Train Operating Company in 2018. This behind the scenes photographic study focuses on the men and machines that form the basis of that story, offering a glimpse of the depot at work, featuring traditional engineering craftsmanship of the highest order.
