Two's a Charm

'A charming and cozy read' - The Sun

Sisters by chance; rivals by choice. A bookish cozy fantasy about two witches uncovering dark magic in a small town, for fans of Emily Grimoire and Erin Sterling.

Sisters Effie and Bonnie might both be witches, but they're worlds apart. Reserved and bookish, Effie finds solace in library corners, while Bonnie knows all about being popular. They strive to stay away from one another - a challenging task in the confines of their small hometown, Yellowbrick Grove.

When their estranged Uncle Oswald draws Bonnie into a magical scheme under the guise of helping the locals, Bonnie readily agrees. But it turns out no good deed goes unpunished - Oswald's real motives are truly wicked.

Within a day, Bonnie's spells start misfiring and Effie notices something sinister taking root.

Can they unite to reverse this magical mishap? Or is life as they knew it over for good?

Quite enjoyable!

I enjoyed (mostly) listening to this audiobook. Did I get frustrated at Bonnie for some of her poor choices and not really thinking through it all before doing something she knew was a bit shady, since it was Oswald it brought it up to her? Yes, yes I did. Though if I thought of the sisters as in their early twenties, then a bit could be forgiven and I understood more of why Bonnie acted the way she did. Plus, some of her magical messes were quite funny. It balanced Effie (though I definitely liked her better and understood her way of living) who was more mature, though a bit oblivious to romance, and I would love to work in the library with her! This story was a nice slice of life in a small town with real magic and witches helping things along, sometimes sneakily, and sometimes saving the day (after causing the catastrophe in the first place! lol) and figuring out how to keep going after their mother's death and work together as sisters instead of clashing and hiding hex bags in each other's possessions. Lighthearted, humorous, with a good message of working together, not taking the easy way to make money (Oswald is awful!), seeing the love in front of your nose, and the importance of memories of loved ones, plus a ghost in the library, hexed hair straighteners, and dog wrangling! Not quite perfect but an enjoyable book to listen to. The narrators, Georgina Sadler and Kristen DiMercurio, did a great job in bringing the sisters and their town of Yellowbrick Grove to life. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a chance to laugh and enjoy my way through this audiobook.
