At the J.R. Brand Ranch, springtime sees the birth of many new thoroughbred foals. Each horse holds the promise that it may someday become a championship racehorse. A special mix of training, physical strength, and desire will be needed to realize that dream. Two Links Back, affectionately called Twoey, is born with the bloodline of a champion but he will need concentration and confidence to become a winner. Support arrives for him in the unlikely form of a small goat named Kidd. Based on a true story about their lifelong friendship, Twoey & the Goat gives an inside view of the life and upbringing of racehorses--from their careful training to the joy and excitement of racing, from the thrill of winning to the pain of career-ending injuries. Twoey and his friend Kidd the goat will remain a team throughout.
My girls and I just finished this book and have started it again. My 4 year-old wants a "Twoey and the Goat" birthday party. The story is simple, exciting, heartwarming, and educational. It is a wonderful story about unconditional love and friendship. It also teaches children that you can be a champion and still be good and kind. We loved it!

This is a wonderful read for children and adults. It's a realilistic look at horse life that will produce smiles, tears, and desires in the reader. The lessons about true friendship, trying your hardest and it being OK to need others, are woven into the story in a way that makes them apparent but not glaring. The author has pledged proceeds from the sale of this book to help other off-the-track horses to find second careers or retirement pastures, just like Twoey.

Set at a ranch that exists specifically to raise racehorses, Twoey & the Goat is the story of a young horse named Two Links Black (affectionately nicknamed "Twoey") who has the bloodline of champions. But natural talent is not enough - he needs to train, developing his running skills, concentration, and confidence to grow up a winner. Told from Twoey's point of view, Twoey & the Goat follows a racehorse's life from intense training to the excitement of the race to the thrill of victory and the pain of career-ending injuries. The final couple pages tell the real-life story of Twoey, an actual horse upon whom the story is based. Twoey & the Goat is especially recommended for young horse lovers who enjoyed the classic "Black Beauty" and yearn for more.

This ia a must have for children of all ages. A fantastic story very well written and easy to read. My 8 year old and I read it in 2 days. He didn't want to put it down. A story with animals and best friends how can you go wrong. Great book for getting your child into "chapter books." The chapters are short and keeps their attention.
