It did not seem such a fantastic thing to be doing at the time, sailing around the world. But now I realize what incredible feat it was, especially from my mother's perspective, being the only woman onboard for nearly two years. She has an amazing sense of adventure. And yet, she still says modestly she "was just along for the ride." Her daughter, the author, inherited her mother's sense of adventure. Her daughter joined the trip at the very end, later saved a little bit of money, then went backpacking around the world.
