The author was a journalist and an editor of a legal-literary magazine in mainland China. In the late 1980s, she published collections of stories and documentary reports. She went to the United States in 1990. While returning China with her husband to visit her relatives in 1999, she was detained by the Chinese authorities for 100 days with her husband because he studied the history of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. The poems selected in this collection are some of her memories, her thoughts, and her self-examination on her life experience after she regained her freedom. The texts of her poem are fully compressed by her heavy thoughts and the vague footprints of her extraordinary life.
