Terrific Perspective on the Swing

Wolford's strength in this book does not lie in the standard "fundamentals" in the first several chapters. Arguably, none are really fundamentals - stance, grip, etc - because if they were, then EVERYONE would have to adhere to them. And if you see tour players, they vary from weak to strong grips, narrow to wide stances, short to long swings etc. The meat of this book, and it is very very good, is his ability to change your perspective in how to move the club, so that the new perspective will move the club along the correct path. 98% of amateurs have an incorrect perspective in how to move the club and body, so that the result is that they come over the top and never have a chance to feel what a real golf shot is like. If you are an amateur, regardless of handicap, and you want to eliminate the over the top move which causes slices, pulls etc, then this book is for you. I am not aware of another book, possibly outside of David Lee's, that describes why most people are over the top, and how to undo that. Hogan's book will exacerbate that issue with every golfer who didnt start out as a hooker, Leadbetter's books never really describe how to make the move down, and Hardy's books I think are a passing fad, and will promote more over the top moves than any book out there. If you want to eliminate the over the top move, then this is the only book out there that shows you the new perspective to do it.

Good simplified approach

Well...its really more than two moves. There's the matter of what goes on between the two moves, but the book does help with that also. Its written in a way that lets you sense the "feeling" you should be searching for in different stages of setup and the swing, not to mention helpful hints on the mental approach to the game. Personally, a few elements of this book have helped me tremendously and i've been assiduously working on my swing for years. I have to think anyone who is still searching for a sound, repeatable swing could profit from reading this book. One negative: I'm sold on the idea that there are different appropriate fundamentals for the basic one plane versus two plane swing. This is not addressed in this book.

An undiscovered classic!

I have a collection of golf books that would rival any large cities library, and I have read everything I could get my hands on about the golf swing- and I have to say this is the best swing instructional book I have seen. Dudley's writing is clear and easy to follow, the diagrams are simple, straightforward, and the results are longer higher drives and irons. This book can be the only book you need to use for instruction- it has ball flight laws, short game instruction, putting instruction, mental management, and the author anecdotes put in for emphasis on key points. I don't write reviews often, or give 5 star rating lightly- this book deserves classic status for its clarity and its ability to deliver results. Highest Rating.

It worked for me!

At first I was dissapointed that the book really wasn't about just two moves, but a comprehensive look at the entire golf swing - grip, posture, ball position - the whole deal. I enjoy reading about the golf swing and I've read a lot, but this book is one of the best. There are no magic moves and nothing that I really hadn't read before, but Wolford puts it all together in a way that makes all of those thousands of tips make sense! I've got my legs working as they should (I've added distance to my drives), proper weight shift, timing, etc. If I do make a bad swing on the course, I easily recognize and correct my error on my next swing. The game has gotten a lot easier! The diagrams are not great, but they get the job done. Thank you Dudley Wolford!
