Elly Parker helped a perfect stranger. She didn't know he was the perfect killer...in another "unguessable and unputdownable" (Alex Michaelides, #1 New York Times bestselling author) psychological thriller from the author of Witness 8. One offers a helping hand. The other is your worst nightmare... Social media influencer, Elly Parker, had the perfect life, that is until she discovered her husband had been having an affair with her best friend. But as hurt, betrayed, unmoored as Elly is, she has made it her mission to help others in need. Even strangers. When Elly meets a man on the steps to the subway platform, crutches in one hand and a yellow suitcase by his feet, she can't help but feel sorry for him. Just as he planned. This small act of kindness sets off a change of events more terrifying than anything she ever could imagine. To survive, Elly will need to convince the world what happened to her was real. She needs a lawyer who can bend the rules to find the truth. Eddie Flynn and his team must find the stranger with the yellow suitcase. But little do they know this cunning killer is a master manipulator and is always one step ahead.
This was my first book in the Eddie Flynn series but it definitely won't be my last! I did love it, even though it was several books in, and I did not feel lost in this roller coaster of a thrilling justice/crime story and I was hooked the whole time.
I do love Eddie Flynn and even though he skirts the law and sometimes jumps the line entirely, it is all to get the right kind of justice for his clients who wouldn't get it any other way! This time around it is Ellie, accused of murdering her cheating husband and best friend in what looks like an air tight case, except for the story she tells about a stranger and a suitcase. If I were in trouble like that I would want Eddie Flynn and his links into pretty much anything in the city and knowing what buttons to push on people to get the truth, instead of a pretty solution that helps other people's careers, and lets the real murderer go free and kill again. The viewpoint of the killer was also fascinating because he is really clever two and it is quite the cat and mouse game between him and Eddie to see who will make it out alive and whether the innocent will pay for the crimes. There is never a dull moment and I can't wait to read more books in the Eddie Flynn series!
I am very glad I got the chance to be introduced to this series and this is a great book to start on, especially if you are into the public social media lives that influencers use, and get to see that it may not be the best thing to post your whole life online!
