Excellent analysis of the healthcare issue

This book provided a very complete and detailed analysis of how healthcare became the expensive problem it is today. It was so depressing to think that so many wrongs cannot be undone. My husband is a dentist and it is very difficult today to earn a living due to the managed care and govt run plans even within the state. So many chapters spoke to us directly and we hope that the solution is actually passed in Congress at some point. The managed healthcare that could be run by the govt public option is a terrifying option. Please read this if you do not understand the healthcare debate going on today.

great review of our current health care system

This book is a review of our health care system from 1942, the inception of employer paid health insurance, through 1965, the birth of Medicare to today. The author very clearly list inefficiencies, current costs, compares U.S. health care to Canada, U.K., France and Germany. It is a MUST read for today's debate. Finally, he offers a very viable solution. Get it. Read it.

Best book on what is wrong with our Health Care System

I am just an ordinary person, not in the health care field, so my review will not be as well written as the previous two; however I will do my best to express what I learned from reading Dr. Waters' excellent book. It thoroughly and clearly tells how our health care system got so far away from being a service provided by doctors to patients and instead turned into a system run by insurance companies for the benefit of their stockholders. I learned so much. However, when I got to Chap 21, that describes his solution to the Health Care Crisis which is to have a Health Savings Account I got totally lost and confused. A good writer he is. A good and concerned physician he is, but when it comes to explaining financial matters--he left me wondering and wishing someone could explain what he's trying to say. I wish I had his email address, I'd write and ask him for answers to my questions. I do recommend his book, but not as a solution, just as information.

A Great Quick Reference for Any Physician

Two Days offers the best perspective that I have seen on how and why America is suffering from our current health care crisis. Instead of a reporter, politician, or self-proclaimed scholar preaching their political views to you, Dr. Waters invites you to understand the problem from a practicing physician's point of view. He shows how private insurance and government destroyed the doctor-patient relationship by removing both doctor and patient from the decision-making process. Dr. Waters addresses the important questions in health care: How has health care become so expensive? Why do so many physicians overprescribe? Why did WHO rank the US 57th in fairness and equality? How can we improve health care quality and lower costs? All these questions are answered as he presents the pros and cons of the most popular solutions. Two Days will leave you astounded that Dr. Waters plan wasn't instituted long ago. Two Days is a must-read for every physician, medical student, and anyone who cares about the declining quality and rising cost of health care in the US. The problem is simple to understand and even easier to solve with Dr. Waters showing us the way.

Highly Recommended

With an intriguing title, this little gem of a book is easy to read and packed with vital information about our healthcare crisis - including the causes and the cure. As a retired internist, and friend and colleague of Dr. Waters, I especially enjoyed the sections on the decline of "primary care" (as I certainly experienced this.) Also, the explanation for the so-called "uninsured" was well stated. This book should be required reading for all the politicians in Washington who are largely responsible for the mess we're in. -S.
