Two Bears There, The Story of Ahpun and Oreo, is the second book in a series about the intriguing animals at the Alaska Zoo. Written and illustrated for children by award-winning author and artist Dianne Barske, Two Bears There is the true story of a polar bear, Ahpun, and a brown bear, Oreo, living together as buddies at the zoo. From the time they were raised side-by-side as orphaned cubs, no one was sure if they would bond or battle.
This book is an excellent addition to anyone's library. I had the privilege of meeting her husband this summer while I was in Alaska; what a phenonmenal man. I wish I could have met her too- she was busy with something else. She is also the author and illustrator of Mukluks for Annabelle- another true story of an elephant receiving warm boots (mukluks) in Alaska. I absolutely love this story! It's a true story of Ahpun and Oreo, two bears that no one thought could be friends; everyone claimed it was impossible they would get along. Not only did they get along, but they wanted to be together all the time! The illustrations are magnificant, so real and beautiful. This woman is a true talent...I hope she keeps writing..... This book is a true joy, and will be loved by all. Young or old, you and your family will enjoy this true tale!!
