A DIY guide that's more fun to read

This is not your typical do-it-yourself guide. I picked up this book because we're about to undertake a big remodeling project and every magazine or fix-it guide I read just bores me to tears. I wanted something helpful, but also fun, and I got it! This book is more like a journal with personal reflections and heartfelt advice, plus tons of great tips for fixing up your home. Whether you're a renter or a homeowner, doing it yourself or hiring contractors, just starting out or making improvements on an old home, all the various decorating and remodeling choices can be overwhelming. Should you go with hardwood, tile, or carpet? Wallpaper or paint? Everything has pros and cons and everyone you talk to has a different opinion. But this book gives you the kind of straight-forward, honest advice you'd get if you had a cousin who's a contractor.
