In the early part of the 1900's the rich and famous turned Bar Harbor into a summer haven for the wealthy and powerful. However in 1947 a devastating fire destroyed that world. Out of the ruins of the worst fire the island had ever seen and the changing political climate of the 1950's and 60's evolved the restoration of the original island life of lobster-men, boat builders and fisherman, intertwined with vacationing middle class families and the bohemian lifestyle of the hippie generation.
