See where it all began with the start to Jessica Day George's bestselling series about a castle that can rebuild itself and the children who defend it. Tuesdays at Castle Glower are Princess Celie's favorite days. That's because on Tuesdays the Castle adds a new room, a turret, or sometimes even an entire wing. No one ever knows what the Castle will do next, and no one-other than Celie, that is-takes the time to map out the new additions. But when King and Queen Glower are ambushed and their fate is unknown, it's up to Celie, with her secret knowledge of the castle's never-ending twists and turns, to protect their home and save their kingdom. I really liked this book a lot. It was different/unique and though not constantly action packed (though not “slow” either) I was engaged and interested as well as enjoying it throughout. It wasn’t perfect, but I plan to get the series and am looking forward reading to the next book. Definitely will read again in the future. For context I am 31 but have always truly enjoyed reading youth fiction and children’s books.
Also, I discovered it because it’s the same author of Dragon Slippers and that whole series (but especially the first book, of course) is AMAZING. 11/10 recommend. Could not put those books down. Favorites for sure!

Writing Style: Third person past tense. One POV.
I really wanted to like this book, but where's the personality? Where's the heart? The characters weren't goofy or unique in any way and I struggled to care about them as a result. I'm also not sure why it was Tuesday's at Castle Glower, when it took place over several weeks and there was only one mention of Tuesday in the entire book.
Though there was nothing inherently wrong with the plot, I gave this two and a calf out of five cows. I think the emotional element is one of the most important parts of a story, and without it, it doesn’t matter how good the structure is.
