Truth, Lies & Promises: The Battle for Our Allegiance & Affection

"God is not a man that He should lie... or has He not spoken, and will He not make it good?" However, Satan is the father of lies and a murderer. He is seeking whom he my devour with deceit of every sort. The unredeemed man is a liar as well in his desire to be loved, admired, accepted, in his jealousy of others, and in his desire for power. We discuss the games that people play to gain control over others.
Humanity has made a science out of marketing, propaganda, and persuasion for every purpose. We try feverishly to uncover bias, fallacy, and shallowness of thought, but it seems a losing battle. We discuss Desmit's theory of Mass Formation Psychosis. Our panic from fear may lead us to seek a common enemy, focus on it without the need for proof, and accept drastic unreasoned action through a tyrant who promises our safety while taking away our freedoms and making our lives miserable. We talk about "the greatest lie" which causes deep depression leading to loss of health and joyful living. We must look at depression anxiety as temporary.
We broach the controversial subjects of an overblown pandemic, climate change, "wokeness," and critical race theory. While the role of Christianity may be unclear, we can assert our love for Truth. We live in a divided world over these issues, a divided country, and a divided church. A house divided against itself cannot stand, and for that reason, I have tried to avoid anything divisive here. Yet, I could not participate in what has been a lie. Unity in the church will be born of the Spirit and not by agreement on every issue.
We can see how our human weakness, our buzz words and shallow thinking, can make us vulnerable to false prophets not only in the world but in the church. So, we should ask "What is truth?" We find the answer in the Word of God and in Jesus Christ. Having based our lives on Truth, we should obey Jesus' commandment to "Take heed, for there will be false christs. I have warned you ahead of time."
