The Power of Love

Linda was forced to admit to doing something she had not done, in order to be released from prison. If that wasn't bad enough she has to face her new life with accussing eyes following her every move. She is given a job at a Youth Communite Center but only after proving that she can handle herself when one of the so called tough youths interrupted the interview that Avery, the owner, has reluctantly been forced into giving her in the first place. Linda is forced to proved herself time and again once she is given the job and she does. The kids come to, not only respect her, but they truely like her. She gained their respect through tough love, something no one else on the staff, beside Avery, was willing to try and do. Every step of the way she was being watched and critiqued by him, Avery and her new peers. Avery's trust issue stem from the fact that his older brother got mixed up in drugs and lost his life. Linda, coming from prison on a drug related matter, didn't help her case not one bit. Just when things started to changed, Linda's ex shows up and Averys guard goes back up and the biggest rift of them all is wedged between them. He had fallen for her and was kicking himself for doing so. He believed that she had not been wrongfuly accused in the first place and was going to bring trouble to his center if she stayed around. Linda wasn't going to give him a chance to firer her because of it. she set things in motions to find another job. Avery was shocked when she hand him her resination, but agreed to stay and finish out the two weeks he'd given her to prove herself. She wanted him to know that she was a woman of her word, no matter what he believed. Because he was still in love with her, he didn't want to let go. She felt the same way, but Linda didn't want her ex to have a chance at causing the center or them anymore trouble. Leaving was her way of showing how much she cared, but could he let her? Avery had to dig down deep and find the courage to believe in what they could have in order to get passed who he thought she was in the beginning. Everytime he thought he had her figured out she proved him wrong. She was nothing like the pampered princess he'd tagged her for being on the first day they met. I really loved this book. Infact I may have said to much but the only way to tell is to buy the book and find out.Last Dance

Holding On To Trust

Alice Wootson has written a heart warming love story about learning to trust and starting over. Linda Durand, middleclass, educated, ex-convict. Linda made a foolish mistake through misguided love and paid for it by spending more than three years of her young life behind bars. Now she has a chance to start over, if that's possible. Her public defender has found a place for her to live and has set up a job interview for her at a neighborhood community center. Linda knows that she can do the job but must prove it to the center's owner who does not trust her. Not because she has been in prison, he believes in giving a second chance and has proven it time and again. Avery does not trust her manner, her style and the fact that her clothing and her perfume speak of money and privilege. Linda has just two weeks to prove that she can make a positive difference at the center. She trys to keep a young girl from following in her footsteps and to raise the level of expectation of the youths who come to the center, some of whom believe that where they are now is where they will always be. In spite of Avery's distrust of Linda he cannot deny that the tension they both feel is not necessarily related to the issue at hand. There is a lot to this novel. Avery has to deal with his past hurts and let go of mistrust and pain. Linda has to learn to trust men again. She has to find a way to forgive a family that she believes abandoned her in her time of need. She also has to deal with the jealousies that have been created by Avery's obvious personal interest in her. This is a straight forward love story with a powerful message of trust and commitment. Thumbs up to Alice Wootson. Absolutely recommended reading. Vannie(~.~)

Trust in Me

This was a very fitting title for this book. Linda Durard trusted her first love and it made her end up in jail. She believe that Jamal loved her and wanted a future with her but she had to find out the hard way that it wasn't so.Now Linda is being released from jail and she needs a place to stay and a job to get back on her feet. Her attorney Marian sets her up to live with her aunt and to work at her friend Avery's children center.Avery is not heppy about having Linda work at his center because of the drug charges that she had. He is not happy that he is instantly attracted to her either.Throughout the book Linda and Avery try to overcome their past to move to the future. But will they but their guards down and trust one another. You have to read this book to find out. It is a very quick read and you will fall in love with all the characters. Each character help to make this a very quick read.I would love to see a story on Linda's sister Sheila and maybe Les.
