#2 Saga of THE LAST CHANCE HEROES - would have made 5 stars but ------

Would have made a 5 star rating except with 3 Lovers, she had 4 tooo many. Just the attitude of, Hey, here today gone tomorrow, but let's have a little fun. - beautiful cover. Major Benning's P.I. agent Sadie Harlow went home to help her Aunt Lillian and of course had to deal with her spoiled cousin, Jennifer, 22. Jennifer refused to clean the Yellow Rose Motel room, #119 because it was way too dirty and it smelled. So Sadie agreed to clean it up. She had picked up everything in the bedroom and headed to the bathroom where the smell got worse. Yup! a dead body in the bathtub with his throat slashed. Ah yes, the dead guy turned out to be the banker, Aidan Hearn. And to top it all off she had to call back Deputy Truman McCain, 33. He was the young man she had offered her virginity to at the age of 16, and he laughed at her. She has not forgotten the humiliation. Or forgiven him. Truman still wondered about Sadie and what she has been doing all these years. Sadie had known about his blown knee [I am not sure if she knew about his divorce]. He was no longer a football star. Murder in Garth, Alabama was literally unknown, it was quiet, peaceful and dull. One of the reasons Sadie had left. Now they had to call in the ABI and got investigator, Wilson Evans. It tickled Truman that he got to say, "Don't leave town" to Sadie, as she was a witness. Also she had had a bit of an argument with Rhea at the bank when she went to see Mr. Elliott about her aunt's loan. Sadie was becoming a suspect in Wilson Evans' eyes. In trying to duck out of any kind of relationship with Truman she ended up accepting a date from Jason Davenport who tried to hit on her. Truman rescued her not knowing she could have leveled the guy. Then Conrad Hudson disappeared and the investigators spent some time looking for his body, expecting to find him dead. While spending a night at Truman's cabin and in his bed Jason was murdered and evidence pointed to Sadie and possibly Truman. Truman had to turn in his badge and weapon. Sadie took to arming herself with a thigh holster. Oh yes, the Benning agents show up. What had Hearn been involved in? Who would have a motive to kill him? There are more secrets to be revealed. And the new girl, Kathy Carson just up and left. Sadie learned why she was running scared. Sadie was 2 weeks shy of turning 30 and wondered if she should give up any ideas of a happy home, children and a peaceful place to live. Once again Truman had to rescue his love. Great plot - nice intrigue - just too much PMS - messed up the danger tension - romance? too undecided - still worth reading. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED --M -- all in the continueing saga of Benning's agents - #3 is Major Flynn Benning's story in ONE MAJOR DISTRACTION.
