This book is truly inspirational in its ability to relate to the reader on many different levels. Although the subject is self-improvement, the insights come from lots of different fields -- science, business, art, personal anecdotes, etc. This is in keeping with one of the book's major messages -- that being truly human means using your whole brain and developing your creativity and multiple talents and gifts. One of the messages I appreciated was that it's far too easy to get stuck in our daily routines. Too often, "living in the moment" means not looking forward to the future, where we can (with the right planning) develop into the complete, well-rounded selves we have the potential to become. Bacigalupi takes this one step further and gives tons of practical tips for how to realize the visions we all have of our ideal selves. The actual design of the book is beautiful, with lots of diagrams and photographs to make things easier. I actually bought the companion CD as well, sung by Brian Lane Green and Christopher Carl, and was impressed at the music and choice of songs to fit with the inspirational message of the book. It's too bad that the book is in limited release (apparently you can only get it directly from the publisher), because I can think of more than one person who could benefit from it!
