Play with perception and explore the way your brain and eyes work with these dozens of full-color optical illusions. Each is presented with a fascinating, reader-friendly explanation of how it works. You'll find items that appear to be dissimilar yet are actually identical, pictures that play with foreground and background to represent different images, stationary objects that appear to be moving, and architectural illusions. Locate and experiment with your eyes' blind spots. Assemble a monster that seems to watch you as you walk past it. Solve picture puzzles, find hidden figures, and look at items that aren't really there. Examine the phenomenon of simultaneous contrast, which makes colors that are the same appear to be different hues, and that of neon illumination, which creates striking color effects. A true feast for the eyes and mind, these challenging visuals are guaranteed to astound and amaze you.
This book is amazing. I have always been fascinated by optical illusions, but some of the pictures in this book are incredible. It is a rare occasion when the contents of a book cause you to question your definition of reality, but for some of these images, you think twice about what you see. Circles that don't look like circles, lines that don't look like lines, rectangles that don't look like rectangles, circles, lines and rectangles that exist only in your mind and shapes that cannot exist, yet appear right before your eyes. My favorite images are those of impossible shapes, viewed from one angle, they appear to exist and you begin to question whether the shape is indeed impossible. However, when examined from another angle, you can see that it really doesn't exist. In many cases, the anatomical, physical, physiological or psychological reasons for the interpretation of the image are explained. Some of the pictures have hidden features, and solutions to those problems are given in the back. Once I started reading it, I didn't put it down until I was done.
