A young Indigenous laborer trapped in a brutal Chiapas mahogany camp witnesses the violence and exploitation of debt slavery in the fourth volume of B. Traven's iconic Jungle Novels.
When the profit-hungry Montellano brothers take over a remote mahogany plantation in the jungles of Chiapas, the Indigenous workers already trapped there find themselves subjected to even more brutal demands. Among them is Andr s Ugaldo, a young laborer whose grueling work hauling enormous mahogany logs through swamps and jungle exposes him to hunger, violence, disease, and the ever-present threat of death. As the plantation owners tighten their grip and treat their workers as expendable commodities, Andr s and his fellow laborers begin to recognize the shared injustice that binds them together.
