fun and knowledge in spite of ourselves

Trouble in Tulum is a clever story with insights into human behavior that are delivered with a sense of humour and clever understanding of the human condition. If you've ever wondered "what it's all about?" and gotten befuddled by books by "teachers" claiming to enlighten and harken "the truth," this book is for you. While full of inside jokes for the psychotherapist and long-time spiritual seeker, it is a great read for anyone interested in spirituality and/or pychology. It's a romp and will make you hope if a sequel is in the making.

Trouble in Tulum is a delightful, comic satire on today's spiritual "marketplace" and the sometimes seemingly absurd avenues through which we both search for, and frantically run from, the Totality of ourselves. At the same time, it is a playful yet precise study of the Enneagram, and a book I would wholeheartedly recommend to any serious student, as each of the nine players stay absolutely true in both word and deed to their core egoic fixations. The true beauty and wisdom of this book is that these limiting aspects of character are ultimately the vehicles through which each discovers the ultimate truth they have yearned for, as the surprise ending reveals a freedom beyond imagination. Once I started, I couldn't put it down, and found myself in the early morning hours laughing hysterically at the characters in this thoroughly enjoyable book!
